WSOP Magic

Yet again it has been another wonderful World Series of Poker, 2007 has given us the largest and most prestigious event ever!!

The final table was nearing and the break in play everyone was waiting for it was shortly after 4 a.m. PST when Steven Garfinkle pushed his last $3.5 million in the middle with Raymond Rahme calling shortly after. Garfinkle flipped over his ACE 3 just to look over and see Pocket Queens staring back at him. All Rahme needed to avoid was an Ace and did so on the flop with great success and hitting a set with a KING QUEEN JACK now all Rahme had to do was avoid a 10 and Tuesdays final table would be complete, he dodged both the turn and river and there it was.

Jon Kalmer
Lee Childs
Philip hilm
Jerry Yang
Raymond Rahme
Tuan Lam
Alex Kravchenko
Lee watkinson
Hevad Khan

Now that the final table was decided the action came straight away with Jerry Yang being the aggressor and bullying the whole table and finally working his way in to the chip lead. The whole table was scared to call his huge raises until hand #15 where a 1Mil bet by Yangwas called by Philip Hilm. The flop came K♦-J♦-5♣ and another 2 Mil was pushed in by Yang this was yet again called by Hilm a 2♥ came on the turn Yang then put in a further 4 Mil to the pot and Hilm decided enough was enough a went all in. Yang took some time to think and eventually called and flipped over A♦-K♠ and Hilm showed 8♦-5♦. Yang needed to dodge any diamond and an 8 0r a 5. The river showed 6♣ which meant we had to say good bye to Philip Hilm our 9th place finisher earning a cool $525,934.

Yet again Yangs aggression proved priceless as he raised to 1.0m, and Lee Watkinson moved all-in for 9.715 Mil shortly behind him. Yet again he took his time before eventually calling with A♠-9♦. Watkinson was weaker with A♣-7♥. The flop of 6♦-4♥-2♣ this proved that the split pot chance was extremely unlikely K♦ on the turn and J♠ on the river ended the day for Lee Watkinson in who finished in 8th bagging himself $585,699.

This years World Series of Poker seemed to be unsually dominated by one man and he then made it 3 knock outs out of 3. Lee childs was the victim of this attack but this time in a less confortable fashion as he was a huge underdog with his J♠-8♠ against Childs K♥-J♣ the flop meant that Yang was left with just 3 cards in the deck he needed an 8 the flop provided everything Childs needed 6♣-4♣-4♦ but the turn was that miracle card yang needed 8♣ this still left Childs a flush draw and a K to hit but it just wasn't to be as the river showed a 9♦ and Childs left the table with $705,229 from his 7th place finish.

The chip stacks were as follows with Yang leading the way:

Jerry Yang (62.49m)
Tuan Lam (20.03m)
Raymond Rahme (17.11m)
Jon Kalmar (15.91m)
Hevad "RaiNKhaN" Khan (7.76m)
Alex Kravchenko (4.2m)

Guess what? Another Yang attack ended Hevad Khans dreams of being the youngest player to win the WSOP beating Phil Hellmuths record (He said he wasn't bothered and it would be good for the game but he was really hoping he wouldn't win deep down:p) Yang raised 1.5Mil and instantly Khan raised to 6 Mil. Rahme folded and yet again Yang took his time but made what proved to be another great call. When Khan heard that he moved all-in "In the dark" before the flop came which only proved to be one danger card for Yang K♣-4♣-2♦. Yang called with J♥-J♠ and Khan flipped his A♠-Q♠. Khan now needed to hit either an A or a Q but it wasn't to be and the turn and river provided 3♠-3♣ and Hevad "RaiNKhaN" Khan finished in 6th and nearly becoming a millionnaire with $956,243.

Hand #60 amazingly didn't involve Jerry Yang as Raymond Rahme made it 2.7 Mil to go. Jon Kalmar decided to make his move and reraise all in for 13.245 Mil .Rahme made a fairly easy call with J♦-J♠ Kalmar showed his A♠-K♥. This set up the classic coin flip race. Rahme managed to dodge the flop being 10♣-9♥-6♥ and two 3♣-3♥s and Jon Kalmar was our 5th place finisher and this years WSOPs first Millionnaire gaining $1,255,069.

The chip counts now being a lot closer after Yang dominating all night how would he react?

Jerry Yang (47.73m)
Raymond Rahme (30.45m)
Alex Kravchenko (27.6m)
Tuan Lam (21.7m)

An agonising 107 hands later the break in play everyone was waiting for happened! Kravchenko raised to 2.1 Mil. Yang moved all-in over the top of Kravchenko and he quickly called with A♠-K♦. Yangs 8♦-8♥ set up another classic coin flip race but it was short lived as the flop provided the answer Q♦-9♥-8♠. Yang hit his set and Kravchenko needed runner runner but it wasn't to be he went out in 4th picking up a nice $1,852,721 winnings.

Finally it was down to three after all then hands and just two hands later it was down to 2!!

Yang with yet another raise of 2.6 Mil and Rahme reraised to 8.6 Mil. Yang took some of his infamous time and eventually made the right call the flop came A♦-J♥-8♥. Rahme checked and Yang bet out at it with a huge 10 Mil. Rahme made his move all-in for an extra 17.35Mil this time Yang studided Rahme for several minutes. Eventually Rahme made his fatal move by asking Yang to make his decision which then gave a tell to Yang who instantly called.he showed his A♠-5 probably the best call of the final table Rahme showed his K♥-K♠. The turn and river provided nothing and Raymond Rahme went out in 3rd banking a sweet $3,048,025(Not bad for a 62 Year old!!)

Heads up action started with Jerry Lang dominating Tuan Lams chips tack by 4:1. Jerry lang was generally out playing Lam all the way and whittled his chip stack down to just 10 Mil. H efought back hard after that and doubled up via a lucky win all in with 4♦-3♦. Then the final hand of WSOP came...On only the 36th heads-up hand, Yang bet out 2.3 Mil and Lam reraised all of his chips. Yang called for 22.2 Mil and everyone could not wait to see the cards 8♣-8♦ for Yang and A♦-Q♦ for Lam(yes another classic coin flip lol). The flop of Q♣-9♣-5♠ ,meant that Lam stormed in to the lead in this hand and a long match was on the cards and a 7♦ on the turn meant that Lam had straight options as well as hitting an 8. The river was of course going to be a 6♥ it was Yangs day from start to finish as he knocked out 8 out of 9 of his opponents and won him the WSOP Main Event!! He deserved it from start to finish and even gave 10% of his winnings to three charities.

Tuan Lam took home $4,840,981 for his 2nd place finish and was a doubt whether to even enter the tournament in the first place.

Jerry Yang took home $8,250,000 and is the champion of this years WSOP thoroughly deserved throughout and is one of the kindest winners in the history of it.
